Been told by Gerry he'll let me in! Bikes in about twenty bits and not even run yet, so no pressure there! Your new bike's looking good Ian , guess it'll be awhile yet though

Wish I could be there. It´s 8 years since the anniverary event when I again missed buying you that promised pint Ned !

 Keith Webb was there in 2005. As I nicked some of his fried chips he said something like, "Cor! did we go that quick in our day?" Actually I don´t think we did -- on the Bantams -- but we weren´t that much slower.  I remember that it did feel as if I was going very very quick when I fell off Icarus-1 Bantam trying to catch Keith and another time when in second place, in a 1000cc allcomers race,  on Andy´s 250 ABS, I  threw it away. That was because I swerved to miss a shadow that went across in from of me. That was as I came down from the hairpin and another rider was  going up to it. It was alraedy late in the evening and the sun being low had cast his shadow right across my bit of road.

So I say, if they run the meeting that late again, watch out for the Ghost Rider ....
Actually I don´t think they would run that late in the 21st century because of the new,  local noise-&-disturbance  rulings....  

Like I said, wish I could be there -- but certain unavoidable happenings make travelling to Blighty impoossible this year.

Have a good meeting lads and show them how much quicker the modern Racing Bantam has become.

Andy is in the UK so that's good news, and i reckon Robbie will have his engine back to its
best next weekend.

I'm not ready yet as have problems with 003s new fairing/exhaust - they don't fit as a pair!
I'm still undecided whether to run 001 as the piston-ported version that's gone so well this
season so far or the reed which went extremely fast at 1000 bikes??

Bantam field is a bit depleted, which is disappointing. At 3 sisters we were nearly the largest
class at Lydden we are the smallest. We have loads of interested folk following, building, talking,
about racing a bantam but not enough people racing them. I'm pretty sure its the lowest Lydden
entry since 1995...

So its a good job we are doing things to try and chance that around..

My bike is ready after a bottom end rebuild just need some numbers on it looking forward to a great weekend    

It is a shame about the entries but I suspect it will be proportionately the case with the vintage bikes as well.

These are tough times financially. A recent car meeting scheduled at the circuit had to be called off owing to a lack of entries.

Let us hope that those of you that do make it enjoy your weekend and provide some great racing.

I'm sure the circuit owners and the powers that be, " are well aware" of the current status with regard to struggling clubs, dwindling numbers, the underlying problems being not enough profit and too many costs.

Circuit costs are simply too high, we are all (in my opinion) being ripped off, what needs to happen is all the clubs need to stop racing altogether, until such a time that circuits will give back to the sport by offering affordable circuit hire to the grass roots. This may well be an unpopular opinion, but what other options are there. ! during this phase you need to pool the money in order to set up your own insurance company,! as this seems to be where most of the costs go!!!!. this is not actually difficult in-effect its very easy.

I certainly would not pay what they wanted, not easy to do and very easy to say, but come on" join forces kick out the current powers ? (what have they done lately) and set up your own association, part of this would be one club for all and one negotiation party or committee dealing with all club meetings across all circuits.

Believe me they need you now, but not for long, they are already working on replacing clubs revenue's, with the corporate track days, they have already seen the writing is on the wall, and really pushing the corporate side.

They do need to replace the capital currently coming from your club racing, a better way of doing this is through corporate and track days.

Only 2 days now! I had a ride at 1000 bikes and came through OK have had OK from doctor, so just got to get things put in Galaxy. See you all there.

Well I'm all done, bike works with new carb , no doubt it'll need a little bit of a twiddle , just hopeing this time I'll not be in the one lap club!! So far from last year now with its new barrel liner carb exhaust and many other little bits. Looking forward to Friday

Could you actually bend you're body and assume a racing position these days John ?

Given the opportunity I´d go for it, MM_tribsa ... I am still in training. Made myself a rowing-rig just recently so the body beautiful is still working well but the brain might not be quite in order, as it was 45 years ago.

Come to think on it -- that last comment might be a false statement.

But I must say I never did like the road-racing, riding position. All the important bits squashed up like that. I saw the scooter racing at Cadwell last year and thought, "Now, that´s what I should have tried..." -- Leg shields and all to prevent those important parts not getting too damp.

Which reminds of way back in `68. We had Thruxton for a couple of our meetings. Its flat with a lot of fast curves, so it meant -- with a slow Bantam -- getting really tucked in. Of course, it rained in practice so the first race, an hour later -- in sunshine -- was in soaking leathers which as they dried caused nasty red weals which I didn´t notice until much later.

Questions were not asked but the the looks spelt out, "Those red marks look like whip-marks."

4 outings in the pr6's and it still looked the same as I turned up, completely chuffed with, bike ran a dream ( as opposed to nightmare last lydden!) finally got to test and feel the bantam riding style and felt fairly at home , I must give Abig a big thankyou to all that have helped out via here on the forum and other ways , with out the help it'd have been a long and hopeless task to where it is now. Cheers all  

Looked like you were getting quicker each lap and having fun Dan. Definitely thought you were ready to race rather than parade.
I was watching you in the collecting area and noticed you were sitting higher than some of the big bikes, I think I would be inclined to lower the seat hight.

the seat is a little higher than it used to be , when i built the pipe i had a bit of bother getting it to fit and took he quick option if just jacking the seat up at the back , but i did note that it felt better for my legs , most likely the foot rests are too high , the subframe is fairly wide compared to most others too could well end up a winter project, thanks for the reading material too ned not had a chance to to wade through i yet though !
