Heidenau tyres

Good Afternoon Bantam folk,

Does anybody have any experience, either good or bad of Heidenau tyres, I am in the process of replacing the rear tyre after the abuse from the three sisters, my local tyre emporium owner and allround good guy at TST Tony Salt has suggested that the Heidenau is a comparable tyre to the Dunlop KR 825 and is significantly cheaper, which being a Northerner appeals, anyone care to comment, on the tyre that is, not the fact that I am a tight northerner, before anyone gets the wrong idea!

Hi Mike are you taking 18" or 17" rubber ?

round at Tony Salts on my way
to Three Sisters..

Well the rear for sure which is an 18" wheel, but if I am changing makes I would like to swap the pair, the issue there is that the front is a 17" wheel and whilst I believe the 18" tyres have been on the market a while I understand the 17" tyres are relative newcomers, look forward to your comments,

Both Alan Brown and I ran on Heidenau for a few seasons, I would still be on them but the supply dried up, I was certainly say they are comparable to the Dunlops which I now run.

I dont recall Al have any complaints or concerns, and he is a Yorkshireman so they must be right good value !!

Well for 18" tyres whats recomended is a K40R 2.50
And a K45RSW 2.75. These tyres are well narrow and
look a little frightening but are cheaper than both Dunlops
And Avon AM26s. Check with TST ref rim width all I know there
is that they are suitable for WM1 1.6" .
The Heidenau tyres seem a lot softer to the finger nail test but I
dont know about the wear rate?
Another option maybe Avon Road Runners but in race compound
Graham Newman I believe you are on these as are quite a few MT125
Runners at the classic club...

On the recommendation of Alan Brown I have run 2.75 K45 on front and a K65 90/90 *18" on rear. They work well on my 175. Good in the cold wet, with lower pressures.

Well some interesting and thought provoking comments,I am going over to TST tomorrow with the wheels to see what Tony has got, he says he has some slightly wider Heidenau tyres than the Dunlop KR825 2.75/3.75, I am also mindful that the balance of my Bantam racing this year will be limited to the festival and the Septemder meeting at Cadwell so Johns comments about cold and wet performance could prove significant.
