I am trying to fit A Suzuki piston to a D1. bludgeon (spell checker!Very Happy ) pin. I believe the term for making this work is "crowded roller".

Can anyone talk me through (or have pictures) of how to do this?

Advice much appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy

Robbie,

Thanks for the reply. I got this information from the Bantam Racing web page "Building  a175 Racer".

Talking about little end prep it says;
"What we do is fit a crowded roller, about 19 @ 3mm x 18.9mm rollers with sprung steel thrust washers to hold them in, these are a close fit on the pin and are home made."

I am thinking that matching the D1 little end to the Suzuki pin will need something like this, as I haven't seen or heard of anyone who has found a small end cage to do this.

But then, what do I know!

Cheers,

Andy

The pin has its clip in the piston as normal, the two washers are just a few thou bigger than the pin there function is the let the crowded rollers rub loosely on them rather than the inner part of the soft alloy piston. You'll have to select a piston that's big enough to fit all this in, tz or wisco ts185 etc

The tighter the fit between the washers and pin the better. Even .05mm will make them rattle and wear through the pin. I use hardened and tempered spring sheet and ream slide fit holes then put them on a mandrel and turn OD. You also do not want them crowded tight, if you can, get them tight then remove one. Most sizes you can’t get them tight so just a space of almost one roller is fine.
