Just throwing some old paperwork out and came across this information, which may be of use when looking for a new source of clutch plate material.

At the time we were assisting Tom in trying to source material for new driven and driving plates (for his all steel clutches)

C 0.08%
Si 0.000%
Mn 0.31%
P 0.020%
S 0.015%
Cr 0.035%
Mo 0.015%
Ni 0.00%
Al 0.047%
B 0.002%
Cu 0.142%
Sn 0.024%
V 0.003%

The Analyst comments: "There are no significant alloying additions, other than the carbon, which is also low. The silicon is unusual by its absence. The results were of course checked against a standard, and 2 runs were done on the part."

All the best, Pete

That looks very interesting Pete.
My local laser cutting engineer had suggested some Cu20, 20% Copper (like your 14.2%) not sure what the rest is; but has been used in some different clutches. Will try this next in my 175.
The other material I have tried in my short stroke 125 for hardend plates, is "Blue Steel" used for concrete float blades.

Hi John,

Thanks for your reply - just checking , did you mean 20% Cu, or 0.20%? (The steel we sampled had 0.142% Cu).

Cheers

Pete
