PostSubject: Darley Moor - Sunday 21st May   Darley Moor - Sunday 21st May Icon_minitimeMon May 22, 2017 4:36 am

I was at Darley Moor today for the Historic Racing event. I could not stay long (I had to be back home for 3.00pm) but I saw practice and the first few races up until the lunch break. Conditions were fair, but with overcast skies, and not windy - ideal for racing. I've asked the ever helpful Ed Pickering to post some photos, which will appear shortly - like magic. Just like that - not like that - like THAT. Wink

Cheers, Ed!

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that's Michael Brown no. 51; Robert Duesbury no. 150; Ian Scutt no. 36, and Andy Fraser no. 223.

Thank-you, John & Ed.

Wonderful pics...

I wonder why we have had no race results on this site for years and yeras now.

Perhaps I am on the wrong site but I did see "BSA Bantam Racing," when I started, so I don´t know what to think.

Maybe I should just curl up and not bother ...

... but it seems a pity that it comes to that.

Oh yes -- there are one or two who will perhaps tell me to get onto Facebook, fact is I CANNOT!

Go well and keep well John and Ed... and the few of you who write on here....

Cheers!

Just like to say how impressed I was with the clarity of these photos - well done JC.

On the other hand I will not attempt to address the issue of the out of date website front page!

Hope all is well in Bensberg

Many thanks for the encouraging comment, Pete. Modern cameras are superb. Mine is a Canon G3X - a fairly modest device, but very capable.

Other makes are available! Smile

Hi Peter! -- still impressed with retirement in Cambridge wilderness?

All's well in Oompah Oompah land except for Imy's eyes... No worse -- which is a blessing.

You have some wonderful neighbours-- ever have them in for a drink?...!!

Cheers!

John.

Hi John,

All is tolerably well here in Pensionland, although might not be after June 8th.

Despite my wife being descended from Edward 1st we have not invited the Cambridge's round. I think its due to them being from the wrong side of the family

My bicycle time trialling has hit a bit of an impasse - I seem to require more oxygen this season to make the same power, at the same rpm. I've been logging the barometric pressure and temperature of the air but nothing correlates it seems. Any hints?

All the best

Peter

PostSubject: Hi Peter! Slick´s on O2 ...    Darley Moor - Sunday 21st May Icon_minitimeFri Jun 02, 2017 4:24 am

Hi Peter!
Slick´s on O2. I heard you can buy sniffer-cans in the UK at 25quid a go. I feel I need it too but at that price I´d rather try walking at around 2 in the morning. It was over 36°c here the other day and is maintaining 24°c during the night. A lot of people -- includíng doctors -- reckon the O2-sniffer-can effects are placebo where the patient is believing Her-himself is being cured and does get better.

I am wondering if I should give myself up? My last 6 months of salaried occupation, 1982-3 was travelling around the US telling everyone -- who´d listen -- that the diesel engine was so much better than the gasolene motor and now there are claims of how many miscarriages and lung associated deaths are attributable to NOX &  diesel particulates (which we told people about) so, am I a murderer or manslaughterer....?

In any case it seems the Nick is quite comfortable these days/ day . Three wholsome meals, showers and TV....

A couple of days ago I came across an MCN article on Boreham and they gave the late*** Derek Yorke a lot of space. It was at Boreham airfield -- during some illegal race brike practice, only assiting then  --  that I first  met the Ransom brothers and Humphrey was insisting on the braking distanee being less than his brother stated and Boreham´s wide track turned out to be Humph´s saviour. Norman Gentry,  with a beautifully prepared KTT and many other top 'stars' (Rudges, Triumphs, BSAs  and Vincents) of the day used to set up their bikes and  practice until the police arrived. They usually gave notice of their coming and I cannot recall anyone being nicked.
Chelmsford MC & Car Club took it over and as shareholders we members did all the preparation & clearing up for meetings -- cars as well -- and while it lasted it was fanatstic.

***Derek was my real buddy -- we had a bit of punch up in the lane leading to Boreham circuit one night over the rights of a young lady who lived close by....

Stay well,

Cheers!

John....

Hey! Don't knock the placebo effect. It really works. All we need are stronger and better placebos.

Beer works for me, but only in moderate quantities. Any more than the optimum is bad news.

Hi JB,

Yes I can well imagine the late Derek being involved in a fracas - but mention of the Ranson brothers is coincidental - I was only speaking to Llewellyn on the telephone the other day. He is going to be 100 this year (in October I think) . He seems quite fit and only slightly hard of hearing. Lives up in Aberdeenshire with his daughter now.

Oh well, I'd better get back to my chores. Our grass is growing at an alarming rate in this weather.

All the best

Peter

PostSubject: Wasn´t knocking placebo john...   Darley Moor - Sunday 21st May Icon_minitimeSun Jun 04, 2017 4:20 am

I wasn´t knocking placebo John and it was gin -- which I hate -- that worked on me last (was third) time of malaria which was on the occasion of being invited to the German Embassy in Nairobi in 1993. Two of us Yobboes were invited and the other Tech aid worker said he woulfn´t go without me, Sort of blackmail like "... I'll take my ball home with me if you do´'t ´let em scorea goal." It was a hell of a do the with hostess (who lived with the Geramn amabassaodor) insisting I drink gin and dance with the ladies which according to my buddie I did quite well ... I slept for two days after the event and can assure when it comes to pacebo that method is definiely palcebo at its best.

Hmmm -- maybe I did die and all these 23 years have been sweet dreams!!

Cheers!

A question re front brakes for the use off, Andy Fraser's bike has tls while the rest would appear to have disc, is there a sub class for each type? Just 'wondering' as I seem to be forgetting more than remembering at present!

The rider can choose either disc brake or drum - no separate categories. Andy Fraser favours the more traditional approach.
