booked this afternoon to test the bike on the off chance the weather report would be wrong as usual... affraid oh dear... anyone have any suggestions for alternative venues between now and monday?

well i went anyway...3 side cars and 4 solo,well three solo, my bike lasted 3/4 of a lap before grinding to a halt affraid . second session bike cut out in the pit lane. affraid ... didnt seem
to like running under load from the start of the day checked for spark as it wouldnt start up again and that seemed very weak almost non exsistant thought perhaps it really didnt like the weather.. when it finally started up again i let it warm up then gave it good scream.. it didnt really like that and ran on after id closed the throttle reving really quick and i noticed the fuel in the line fuel filter looked like a fizzy drink full of bubbles and i guess ide blown the head gasket and caused a major air leak.( i had decided to run with a standard head 10.1 for the running in period just to keep the stresses down)well that was that, being both wet cold and very disapointed i wrapped up.. i had chance to speak to an old bantam racer who i thinks name is john solomon, he had raced during the 70s and spoke of mick scutt ,pete tibbits, mike powell, mark carkeek and many others.i let him know about this web site and the bantam racing on the 14th of april, maybe a chance to catch up with old racing friends, so a least one positive part of the day cheers

A wretched day for you, Nobby1. But try and be optimistic -- like I tried that stupid-saying on myself at Lydden sometime in `71, I think. I was late arriving and practice had started. It was when I was there with no help. Neither the 250 nor the Bantam would start. The 250 -- with Gardner carb -- had flooded and just would not fire so I thought , at least Icarus-1 Bantam would run but that just burbled and burbled and burbled. Practice finished and although quite fit in those days I was flaked out completely. Just before the 250 race Chris Newport lent me his fantastic, 6-cylinder Benelli(I think it was...?) and I at least got a ride that day.

That´s BRC club-spirit and I assure you, young-man²² -- keep at it and the wonder-days will come.

²² -- there cannot be more than one person on here, older than me -- can there?

Don't panic Mr. Breeze.... I will be available on race day to help you out with you woes and get you set up and running where ever possible, and any of the new starters.
To begin with... what carb and what jets are you running?
What is your ignition timing setting.

Main thing I can see is you are likely to be a long way out on the jets, possibly an air leak, but may other things stop you from getting stable running and it ain't always obvious.
Where do you live? maybe we can do something before Mallory to get you up and race worthy!

Hi nobby

Alan is right, check the basics. It is very easy to foul plugs if the carburation is out which could be causing your lack of spark. It can be hard to spin the ignition quickly enough to test the spark too. My advice is check for air leaks. I use grease on my gaskets to help the seal and allow me to reuse them. A box of plugs is handy too so you can keep swapping them if they foul while you are setting up. Also check the crankcase isn't flooded with fuel and check the filter isn't blocked in the carb.

thanks for replys and support.. bikes up and running... cleaned a few things , changed a few things Basketball just tried to see if the fella i spoke to on the day was amongst the names in the old program notes as im sure ive got his name completly wrong Embarassed if hes looked in on the web site i apologise, but i was bit stressed at the time drunken
