Hi ,
Last year at Snetterton our scrutineer wanted a third fixing for the exhaust pipe so I obliged with a wire around the pipe and frame,
I've just visited the BHR sight with regards to the Bantam rules and found no mention of a third fixing so I ask, do I need a third
fixing or not, I have to say in all the years I've been with the racing Bantam I've never come up with this one. advice is required
Les 2012.

Hi Les,

I have never encountered this requirement before. The Formula Bantam machine regulations subsume to the overall ACU Standing Regulations for Road Racing machines. So there may indeed be some mention in the 2013 ACU handbook, which I have yet to peruse.

I am sure someone more knowledgeable and conversant with the current rules will be along soon.

Also, you may have had an IoM TT scrutineer, that's the sort of belt and braces needed over there.

All the best

Pete

Hi Les,

Just to add my two pence worth...

We found the scrutineers at Snetterton extremely strict - we were told our exhaust was pointing out at the wrong angle.. however, we didn't change it and it wasn't pointed out by any other scrutineers at any other meetings throughout the calendar...

I would have to go with what the regs say... and argue it if it's ever questioned... Razz

(not very helpful sorry... but thought I'd add our experience!)

Shelley x

Looks like you came across a CRMC technical inspector, they insist on 2 different exhausts mounts where as
Bantams run to Bantam rules and ACU where applicable, refer to chief tech if happens again. Rubber bobbins
should have a wire loop attached too as mentioned above..

Also checked on 2013 ACU regs and BHR regs and depending on supplementary regs wording(?) you can run wet
weather tyres ?? But don't get to excited - i'm sure they will banned again..

Hi Les2012.

I have not re read the ACU standing regulations again but I am 99.9% shure that there is no mention of how many exhaust pipe mountings you must have. But if your bike is fitted with rubber mounts on the exhaust system then if the rubber fails it must fail safe. If (as mentioned earlier) your bike is fitted with cotten reel type rubber mounts then weather you have 1 or 10 then you will need some device to saport to exhaust if they fail to comply with the standing regs. Your wire around the frame and exhaust is all you need to do to pass scrutenering but more elagant solutions are possable.

Hope this answers your query.

Mick.

Hi All,
Thanks lads for you answers, I do not use a rubber mount the pipe is bolted to a frame bracket so I will leave it as is.
Thanks again.
