I've just ordered one of these devices from Amazon. I'll use it mainly in the kitchen, but wondered if they could prove useful in bike tuning and maintenance? You just point it at the object, or component, and read off the temperature.

We use them on humans every day ! So should be good for cylinders

These devices only read the surface temperature, of course, so are of limited use in cooking, and medicine, where you usually need to know the internal temperature. Could be useful for providing comparative surface temperatures in test runs, on various parts of the engine, and different areas of the exhaust?
