Mallory Park this weekend

Come and visit the British Historic Racing stand and see a current Bantam race bike. I don't know if its Michae Brown's 2014 Championship winner or Robbie Brown's "Naked Tribute to John Bass" machine?? Whatever it is, its extreamly fast!

Sounds most mysterious...

At about this time, 47 years ago a  Ford R&D diesel engineer insisted I go to Snetterton with him to see his 250 Villiers Special in action and the BSA Bantams racing...

I said, "BSA Bantams -- Racing? How does anybody make a racing motorbike out of a Post Office Hack?"

Well, I saw -- and it changed a lot of fixed notions in my head.

I´d short track raced  but road-racing was really frightening. I am not kidding:   I was truly scared of the idea. The tarmac looked so much harder than grass or cinders and I had taken my old rigid, 350 AJS to the IoM and frightened myself on those wicked corners -- of course, the tyres weren´t all that good and the back end was rigid....

After many Practice hours of tuning exhaust pipes at Brands the whimpy in me retreated and I really wanted to race -- Icarus-1, Bantam -- built -- I must add -- for just over 80 pounds. Along with 2 sets of close-ratio gears and some other odds and ends the expenditure was well below 100 quid.

So -- there must be a lot of my "Difficult to get started" sort out there ...
I hope you find them Mike.

More power to your elbow as the saying goes....

"Robbie with a naked tribute..."  still has me puzzled ... some sort of EXPOSURE coiming -- is it?

And Mallory --  I am really jealous of you all who get there ....

Have a good time!

Cheers!

JayBee....
