Most will not have heard of Dr John Hinds, one of the Motor Cycling Union of Ireland travelling doctors who recently died in an incident during practice for the Skerries 100 road race.
Last month I was at a talk given by his colleague Dr Fred McSorley who could not speak highly enough of him. He said that Dr John could carry out some very difficult medical procedures at the side of the road which others would find difficult in a hospital environment.
There is a tribute to him (link below) which is a recording of a talk given by Dr John describing the work of a 'travelling doctor' and explaining some post crash proceedures carried out at the track side.
After watching the video you may have a better understand of why the red flag sometimes stops play. I did.
