| Hi Nobby, Are you building your bike for racing? If so then the Phil Irving book is of little use to you as it is seriously 1960 stuff! Get along to a meeting and meet the modern racers, maybe even come along to the practice day at Mallory and see some modern hi-speed bantams giving it some! To answer you question on the Todd heads, they are a bit out of date and very few of the modern racers have them these days, most are either BTW castings, or specials. Get racing.. Alan | |

| alan thanks for your reply, yes im hoping to get to some of the more local meetings this year , im still building up the bike (175) but obviously having a reasonably competative engine is a must, which is holding me back at this point. all the best for the season ahead | |

| Hi Nobby, Go to the tuning section on the main website pages, there is an excellent section by Brian White that will help you a lot as far as tuning goes. A lot of the bikes that are competitive now, are initially tuned to this standard. Make sure you get to the meetings to show you are serious, that way you could well get a bike offered. Good luck Alan | |

| Hi Nobby, Good luck with the bike, Alan's right tuning for speed is well out of date & the majority of it is on four strokes , still has good info if you are new to engine building. Found a copy on ebay, see link below. Cheers Nick

| A particularly sycophantic Vincent enthusiast was standing next to Phil Irving, at a Vincent owners Sprint meeting. A fine example of a vee twin was slowly ridden past, and enthusiast says to Phil: "Doesnt that warm the cockles of your heart?" Expecting a remark in agreement, he was taken aback to hear, in a dry antipodean accent, "No mate, I've got self warming cockles" | |
