| Well it all depends on: Where you live? How many times your bike blows up? How many races you do? I don't know the definitive answer as I don't race (but do go to all the meetings) but I reckon around £500 per meeting should/would cover it. Someone will come along soon and give you an exact (Peter Tibbitts anyone) breakdown of the costs for a season. It may be a bit of an eye opener, who knows? Most importantly, don't forget to budget for photographs as well Rusty Sport-Pics | |

| Costs typically as I see them.
Race entries: £100 ish for a 1 day meeting. £200 ish for a 2 day meeting. Fuel for Van £ 30 to £90 depending on how far! Fuel for bike £ 15 to 20 depending on how many races you pack in etc.. Eating maybe £20 but you can control this cost to suit yourself. Spares/tyre wear/breakdowns/Sportpics pictures (Russ likes that one!) you can probably put into £50 a meeting as a general thing unless you fall off a lot or break things a lot like me! Add the costs of getting your transport and bike built too! plus the licence etc and the start up year is a bit punishing...
There are typically 7 or 8 meetings a year, but you can pick and choose if you are a bit skint. Meetings work out cheaper per race for the two day meetings as the costs are more spread out. So not a particularly cheap hobby but seriously rewarding if you can get out there. Cheers, Alan

| Last time I added it up was in 1985, after I had done the full 1984 season with testing days included. Was around £800. Probably multiply that by 4, gives £3200. | |

| thanks for the info.
So it would work out at about £2000 for the running costs for a year and then add on the £40 odd race license and ££££ for the bike?

| I worked it out once (long time ago) including lost over time for Sat $ Sun. Decided never to do it again in case her indoors found out. | |

| Just to add to the start up costs is the ACU licence. If you have not had one before, and do not have a motorcycle licence, then you can add £150 to this figure, if you have a motorcycle licence, then this is cut to £93 (2008 figures) Well worth every penny, if in doubt talk to Scutty!!!! |

| There is a simple equation in all of this. Overwhelming desire to race x some money = you are on the grid. It depends how much you want to get there. If I added up all the money I spent on racing and divided it by the fun I had, I would still be in front!! Rusty | |
