Hi Tim,
Do not go for the 38mm, it is far too big for a bantam! you will struggle with not enough powerband width and very poor carburation.Big problem with only three speeds!! Stick to 34mm max and you will not go too far wrong.
Try "Allans Performance" at Nottingham (check out on google), or speak to Steve Panter at the 3 Sisters, and you will get sorted out nicely!
Regards,
Alan

Hi Tim,
You should take some time and look at the modern bantams at a few race meetings, that way you will get to know a few people and who is selling what! You need to seek out "Jimmy Gelcoat" in the paddock, he will sort you out with a seat fairing tank etc, but there are a few different styles so see him, or use modern 125 gear that you can get through the race shops.
For barrels and heads you need to talk to Brian White, carbs talk to Steve Panter, general tuning articles can be found on the main bsabantam race web pages. Other spares you will have to sort by going to scrappers or use ebay etc. (plenty on ebay!). Note very few people use todd heads or iron barrels these days as we have all moved on a long way.
Advice is plentiful in the paddock from just about any of the bantam riders as long as they are not busy at the time!
There is no shop for bantams all the guys do there own thing! and when building be sure you keep looking at the bantam formula and ACU regulations to get it right first time.
Cheers,
Alan

hi Alan,

thanks for your reply! i'm coming to Mallory Park on June 7th and the guys from TeamWildCardRacing are sending me free tickets to the race. also i get VIP access to pits to ask questions and buy spares etc....
For the race shops are there any online ones because if had a look round the net for some shops but RaggedEdgeRacing is the only one i can find.

cheers,

Tim

Hi Alan,

do you know anyone who does paint jobs around here in Wiltshire. im looking to spray my future bantam in British racing green with the seat lining to be tan. An atricle on the BSA Bantams 60th Anniversary can be found in the Classic Bike Guide magazine of April 2008.The Racing Bantam on page 89 is what im modeling my Bantam on.(that's if you read the mag!)

cheers,

Tim

Hi Tim,
You could use any good car paint shop for your fairings etc. use ebay for a lot of the parts as you can generally get some good deals.
I am pleased that Phil and Mikki are keeping an eye on you! (Team wild card) they are a hell of a lot nearer to you than myself (Yorkshire). You should get to see what is required before you go spending a lot of money, so hold off till you get to Mallory and look round at the bikes and talk to everyone you can. basic stuff like frame and rear wheel etc are no problem as you have to have that anyway... be sure you have the bantam formula to hand when you start getting your parts together.
I have not seen the article you refer to but it is likely to be Jimmy Gelcoats Launchbury replica that you saw in the mag. You should be sure to talk to him for your parts.
If you are doing a 175 then you need a straight line ignition from Dartford Karting (price somewhere in the £90 ish region) if you are doing a 125 engine then anything goes for the sparks! A 175 engine will definately be the easiest for you as a new starter. Check out the article by Tony Davis on the main web site and the tuning info by Brian White as it will get you a good starting point.
Cheers,
Alan
