PostSubject: maiden run...   maiden run... Icon_minitimeSun Feb 07, 2010 9:27 pm

just took my first run out on my bike, longest quiet road near me. took a while for the pipe to come on but not bad... jumped out of second twice which didnt help.. and the rd 200 front end i have needs attention or changing, the brakes are usless/dangerous.. affraid and my visor steamed up. pale having made a second exhaust, using the sprint info, i probably need to try my mk1 which was made using some soft ware program to give a wider power band and hit at 7000rpm. low down power poor. i think ill have to get hold of some avgas and try again and advance the timing a bit . still all in all Basketball ... any one have any thoughts on having the bike set up on a rolling road or should i just try and sieze it up myself! cheers

Well done Nobby!!
Sounds like you could make it a race at Mallory this year!!! cheers You could be too highly geared for the road you are testing on, in which case it takes a long time to let the clutch fully out! You could be producing power a bit too high, in which case you are doing the right thing in trying a different exhaust, or you could just be badly set up on the carb, so will need a rolling road to get nearer to good settings.
Still plenty to work on though.....

yeah , cheers, i started with a 52 tooth rear sprocket but it took quite a while for the power to kick in, but feel that maybe the exhaust would be the first thing to change and then maybe the gearing after, as it felt like it would go on forever in first. the braking though was almost non existant which is the most disapointing part of this mornings run, not sure if i can make whats in place any better without changing the forks as well... study

hello, front sprocket is 15 tooth.. also just read an article about the rd200, they mentioned it stopped on a sixpence... may be a complete overhall of the system is required on that point.. im in birmingham..

Hi Nobby,
You could have a number of problems there, but first port of call should be a siezed piston in the caliper, then check for contact patch, or misalignment etc. Also if the disc is badly worn you could be running on the outside unworn edge with the pads and missing the main section of disk. or the obvious oil on the disk?
Not sure if anyone is near to you that could help directly, but if you continue to struggle then ask on the forum for help.
Will you get to the practice day?

Which year RD200 forks have you got? Early 74-78? good forks poor brake with round pads(the caliper spreads under braking) or later 79?-83 poor forks(pogo sticks) good brake with square pads.
