| Hi Derek,
Time off allowing we are aiming to go to Mallory next week as we need to get the bike checked sooner rather than later if anything needs doing, the bike still ran when the throttle was shut off after the first start so need to look over a few bits, plus we need to test the brakes, clutch, gears etc.

| Hi ed Sounds like you got a air leak try pumping the engine up bung in the exhaust and air line were the carb should be no more than about 10 psi then round with soap water and see if you get any bubbles base joint seals inlet hope this helps | |

| Listen to Robbie, he knows his stuff! Also check the throttle slide really is shutting the carb off when closed, also check the throttle slide screw position to msee that is screwed out far enough to let the slide go right to the bottom. Most likely cause is as per Robbie. Cheers, Alan | |

| Good Afternoon All, Well it's been an interesting week, Fixed the leak we found on the barrel ( probably get told off but we havent pressure tested it) and checked the throttle slide. Went to try and start it last weekend but in the process dad pulled a muscle in his leg! We ended up booking a test day at Mallory for the wednesday, well that didnt go well. It rained all day, the bike refused to start properly and ended up with a leaking petrol tap so called it a day with no laps. Dad cleaned all the tap out and put a new washer on Friday, Saturday we thought we would try and start it. Put a little fuel in the barrel and a little in the back of the carb and it started first push, ran it for about ten mins. We went to start it again and would not start, so cleaned up the plug and did the same fuel process again. Started first push again and ran for about twenty mins, even the scitsu has decided to work now! Seems a little sluggish on bottom revs at first and spitting a little bit of fuel out the back of the carb, maybe too big on the main jet/too rich? We have gone 15x54 for Cadwell, does that sound about right? Ref pics below can someone tell me if the chain is right or should it go under the bottom bar? We havent even had time to work out how to do the fairing so probably will go without for the time, who knows what will happen at Cadwell but we are atleast trying! Eddie & Malcolm | |

| Hi Ed/Malcolm, No probs with the chain! it goes where you have it! You coul;d well be rich on the pilot and or the needle setting. To get an indication of what to do try turning out the air screw and see if it cleans up the bottom end and starts easier, if need be turn it out a long way just to see what happens. If the engine cleans up then you should reduce the pilot, opposite if it gets worse. Engine wooliness on the throttle blipping can also be the needle setting, so a little experimentation before you get near the track! If you find the engine doesn't want to start after getting hot and starts easy without choke then suspect the pilot jet and needle settings all over again! You will get there eventually! good luck Alan | |

| Hi ed
pressure testing is usually only when you have a problem or those who never buid a motor properly so have to presure check to make sure what they have done is ok. !!!!!!!! | |

| Hi Ian,
Thanks for the kind words, dont worry i have your bribery package sorted!
Not too sure on colin's and dan's progress, is mark taylor still building aswell?
I have a couple of questions:
Can we get away with circular backing plates for the numbers or do they have to be rectangular?
Is there any particular areas we need to concentrate on for scrutineering, as newbies we dont want to get it wrong.
Kind Regards

| Hi Edd I use ovall backgrounds as think look neater but u can have rectangles or parralelagrams the side plates can now be smaller than the front and the numbers can now be smaller but check the dims in the acu book first. Basic things to check are
Bar/ leaver/ cables clear the tank/ fearing ECT and the cables do not get in the way of the lock stops.
No play in headstock or swinging arm
Brakes work no loose or broken spokes and all nuts/bolts tight
Drain plug engine and forks if fitted are wired. Curl the end of the wire over they hate cutting there fingers lol
If exhaust is held with rubber cotton reals needs a retaining wire from one side to the other and that the carb snaps shut
Nothing to worry about they are all good people and if the do pick up on anything it's only for safety and will always offer advice and help to get you out. |

| Hi Ian,
Thanks for your comments, we have ovals so we will put them on, short of taking some metal and some boarders incase they dont like them who knows.
Just trying to make sure everything is okay as the bike hasnt been track tested and may need work so just trying to take that extra stress away!
Oh the joy of a first race meeting out!

| Looks nice Mark. Hope you're getting on alright Ed, haven't been on here in ages. Just popped into the garage, found the Bantam under tarpooling and thought I'd do a morning's work on it. I can see myself finally running it early July at the best. Not even considered doing anything else to it!

| Hi Ian! Seems things didn´t go quite so well for yourself and what I read, your Dad didn´t have much luck on Saturday but seems to have made up for it on Sunday -- how close was the Old Chap?
Pitiful -- the reporting these days.
Cheers! | |

| Hi John
the Old Chap had 2 dnf's saturday - flagged off by marshals when part of the clutch actuator started dragging on the ground in the first race - a rather strange failure that we need to understand, then the barrel parted company with the crankcases in race two when a weld gave way - all part of the learning curve!
Sundays races were done on Snowy's lovely looking and reliable 175 which we know is very quick in Tom Snows hands so it just went to prove the point that the Old Chap wasn't up to speed on the corners, being passed on several occasions by Mick Potter and others.
Despite the brass monkeys weather it was still very enjoyable racing at Cadwell for the first time in about 30 years.

| Hi Ned
No, until now I had not raced the full circuit but did a parade on the long circuit some years ago on Keith Wood's Waddon. The parade leader kept our speed down but I had a problem that slowed the bike even more until the the others were mostly out of sight - then the problem mysteriously cured itself !
We did both 'halves' of the full circuit with the Bantam Club. At one BRC meeting we were 'switched ends' as the wind was considered dangerous on the Park straight and Chris Curve but the more wooded end with the mountain / hall bends was more sheltered and ok.
The hairpin off the main straight made the approach to the mountain so slow it was difficult for Bantams with their high 1st gear. Sam Benn kindly loaned me his bike as mine was out with a broken exhaust stub after falling at the gooseneck. His bike had the Snell output gears and it was the only time I found those gears with their low 1st an advantage

| Hi Ian,
Thanks for the kind comments, it certainly wasnt for the hope of trying!
Hi Ned,
Thanks for the comment, well we had no end of problems first off trying to start it, just did not want to go so missed the first days practice, we had a play around with the carb (thanks to Derek and Alan) and managed to get it running, when it came to go out for the races it just did not want to play ball again so played with jetting and decided to try again the next day.
We got it running and warmed it up ready for practice but left it too late so by the time dad got down they wouldnt let him out. For the races we got it warmed up in plenty of time and dad got to the holding area, first race got as far the first corner out of holding and the second race got as far as the top of the mountain before the sighting lap.
In all a big learning curve and what goes with a new bike and inexperience of racing bantams and circuits. What a great club though who all take time to come and chat and give advice and support.
Kind Regards

| Yeah! I remember that windy Cadwell where we had to use the Barn circuit and The Wobbleyman´s front brake exploded and he ended up in the hay there. Skimmed brake drum with spokes too tight -- fortunately it exploded on Barn Corner...
A good lesson -- that one!
I see you got yourself a third Mick -- well done Old Chap!
