will a iron barrel be okay taken to 64mm, it looks like it'll be very thin at the bottom part that fits in the crankcase , and what mods do you make to the bottom part that fits in the crankcase, do i need to change anything here? thanks dan

Much better off going BTW barrel (see Brian White) I ran 64mm but most now run 62 better choice (quality) of piston PE wiseco.

I run 64mm good Wossner or Wiseco pistons in my iron barrel, they work fine. They are listed as PE175 +2mm oversize. I only use the cheap Chinese ones in trials bike.

PostSubject: Thanks Mick....   will standard barrel take 64mm piston? Icon_minitimeTue Nov 08, 2011 11:31 pm

Just found out what I have been missing for a long time...

Not so long back Brian White´s tuning article was on the front page. It is now where Sticky Mick says --- only there´s a hell of a lot more there by Peter & Mike Powell etc...etc... and bits on Reed Valve by the latter -- Heck! why did it have to be so diificult to find?

First I went to the blue strip of horizontal boxes to the thgird from the left called, "BIKES" -- cursored that and below came three more vertical boxes, the top of which is "Tuning Info" and mousing that gave off to the right gave more vertical boxes -- containing more boxes of wonderful information.

I need not have made an ass of myself asking silly questions if I´d known Peter Tibbitts had written a really good article and parked it just there. Several other contributors put in some good stuff too.

Peter´s article is under "Technical Ramblings" and in it he mentions shortly the effect of Petroil on octane value and that is something we are currently looking at with the funny figures of temperature on the McScutt machine where the practical end of compression is much lower tahn the theoretical and perhaps the oil-petrol ratio has some bearing on that ... Perhaps....????

Cheers!
