Hi All.

My friend and college Rob is coming to Mallory, he is a Kyaba trained technician who has worked with privateer teams in BSB. He is one of the few people I know who has greater expertise than me in suspension set up. If enough Bantam racers are interested he is willing to instruct us in the black art of suspension. The plan is to meet at my van (SKELLERNS Motorcycles) 10 Minutes after the start of the lunch break. If you are interested please let me know in order that I can give him expected numbers.

Mick.

Hi Mick

many thanks for asking Rob to come along and chat to us.

I wondered before hand if it would be applicable as most of us don't have monoshock suspension but I couldn't have been more wrong! He was very interesting, informative and explained things well.

I'm sure all who came along will have learned something useful.

Please let him know we really appreciate him taking time to talk to us.

Mick

Hi Mick.
Firstly I would like to thank you and Rob for taking the time to talk to us, from what I heard (noisy BMW behind us) it was most informative.
Could you ask rob if he could if he could jot down the fork set up and post it I am sure I am not the only one that missed most of it (or it may be just a senior thing).
A great days racing, my grandson Mickey has now got the bug.
Regards
Colin

Hi Mick.
I have passed your thanks onto Rob & he was very happy to help.

Hi All.
Rob has asked me to say that it was a delight to talk to a group of people who were the friendliest group of racers he has ever encountered & so eager to learn.
I hope all of you that had a chance to talk to Rob gained useful information.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION PERSONALLY.
I had explained to Rob that just because we are racers, it doesn’t mean we all understand how suspension works. He was surprised at how little knowledge we as a group have, considering most of us are experienced racers.
Rob’s passion is suspension & he is willing to come to other meetings (possibly Darly more & Cadwell (one day each)). He will give advice to anyone who is interested. Talking face to face with him will get you the best advice but I am also going to try and get him to log on to the Forum so that you can PM him personally.
Mick.

PostSubject: Not taken personally...   Suspension Masterclass Icon_minitimeThu Apr 19, 2012 9:54 pm

Mick, I´d not take that remark personally except in the way to agree with your comments and add, that the people who sold us grass trackers and scramblers did not know much either. I just wish I could have attended the session.

Of course, I have lived thro´ the age of owning and riding rigid rear end, girder forked monstrosities to ride the army´s early Teledraulic forked Matchless´s -- still with rigid back end -- and feel the luxury therein, yet I must add that I rode my old -- 1927 500cc Triumph round Cadwell and Brands without feeling any discomfort from having girder forks and solid rear.... I´ve mentioned before the Royal Enfield´s attempt at making rear suspenion unit´s for the Bullet scrambler -- which were a tube within a tube, a seal and a small quantity of oil surrounded by a spring and how the bloke at Gander & Gray improved my scrambling/grass-tracking life by selling me some pukkha damped units.

Sounds like you had a good session.

Cheers!
