Hi Trevor,
I spent almost 10 years of my life with A.E.Piston Products, starting as a production Engineer, looking after casting and machining, mainly pistons "medium to high speed "diesel piston's", entailed some truely great experiences, with metals we can only dream of, I actually ran a two piece piston with a titainium crown in my Bantam, I made two the first failed, I still have the second, I only wish I had the comand of the whole "two stroke subjust" that I find infectious, with my resources I struggle with both time to get to where I strive to be.
Things take so long when your being methodical, it seems one step forwards, but you have to take two back before you can move forwards, methodical and me never went together, this year my bike is becomming faster, experimenting is dificult to do, keeping reliability.
If I had just raced what I had at the start I'm sure I would have more points than I have, but I have sacrificed results to get the information I require to move forwards, temperature has been our big problem, stopping us from trying things has shown to give more power, we are getting there, but its slow, we are please with our 100% reliability record so far, my bike is so much a better alround package its now running much cooler but with the same power and torque, a lower comp ratio by quite a lot, so we have some opportunities to make further minor detail changes, somthing we were not able to do at the start of the season.
on the castings:- clearly you have done your home work not that I would have expected anything else, but "thank you" for your words.
I will ask Alan to send it back to me, I will edit out the coments on other castings.
regards Derek
P.S. My dad casts what we did in a foundy, in his back garden, with some impressive results.
and all with home made equipment, that cost next to nothing.
