I did this simple drawing some time ago in answer to a question posed by a fellow enthusiast, how far do clutch plates separate when you pull the lever back? At the time I hadn`t even considered the thought at all. He gave me the cable movement he had with his set-up and this was the reply.

I admire the maths Trevor but surely he could have just measured the separation but I suppose that would have taken the fun out of it Very Happy

Well it`s gratifying to know that someone admires something that I do !

The other reason for the drawing is to illustrate the position where maximum arm travel equates to the minimum effort required to pull the clutch lever in, overcoming spring pressure. Adjusting the lever correctly can provide for this!

Levers and mechanical advantage, rotary and linear motion?
