I run the cheapest unbranded 20w50 I can buy, or borrow, and change it every meeting

The only time I put good stuff in I couldn't get rid of the clutch slip cheers

Engine oil gives better gear selection but wears gearbox. EP80 better on gears but poor gear selection and clutch probs if running all steel plates! Don't put 3/4 of a pint in either put 1/2pt.
Where do you race your 150cc banty??

Hi Mike

What is the basis for 1/2 pint. Is it because at 1/2 you can remove the "Egg" from an horizontal engine and not spill oil. Or is there another benefit

Hi Steve .. reason is the oil level is just too high at 3/4 pt and its churning up saping power and generally throwing it out! I think BSA said 3/4pt as it lenghtened the service(top up interval) and as we are changing every 40miles(a race meeting) its not required. My bike(s) have run 1/2pt (10 fl/ozs) since 1984 with no ill effects....

Mike,

Is that 1/2 pint combined in the clutch and gearbox or just in the gearbox?

Regards,

Mike R
