Pete - you've just jolted my memory re our conversation at Cadwell. I have now dug out the VMCC ad from Mole Benn and had the most interesting telecon with him.
The tale goes like this : Between 1960 and 1963, the big three ie. Fred Launchbury, Roy Bacon amd Mole Benn basically took turns to win Bantam races and there was no designated championship. On occasions Sam Benn,(Mole's brother) would be allowed to win. The first championship in 1964 was won by Roy, who even borrowed Mole's Bike on occasion.
Others of note during the period were John Warren, Dickie Balch and Les Eggs. Les apparently still lives close to Mole.
The Bantam Formula came from an earler Formula Libra for Bantams that required standard crankcases and three gears. Mole built a duplex frame for the Libra Formula. He is aware of the Lydden meeting, but considers it a long way to travel. I have told him he would be warmly welcomed and we hope to see him there.
Regards
Chris
