Rear disc ? Empty
PostSubject: Rear disc ?   Rear disc ? Icon_minitimeWed Mar 10, 2010 7:57 am

Hi,

Good to meet some of you at Mallory day last Friday - very interesting to see the bikes perform. Thanks to all who gave advice.

Has anyone used a small REAR disc on a Bantam Hub before ?

It looks possible ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE with a little bit of engineering !

Thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon,
I gather that it has been done before, but you must keep the bantam hub to stay within the racing rules. It did cause some thing of a stir at the time so I hear! affraid
Cheers,
Alan

I like the idea of a disc on the rear but staying within current rules. Tiger cub rear hubs are nearly the same as a D7 -B175 hub but are about half an inch narrower so may give you a bit move room to mount a disc?!

Thanks Mike,

To keep strictly within the rules I have used a D7 rear hub and an offset disc.
That seems to give enough clearance for the disc and its welded-on mounting boss.

The caliper mounting plate has been made from 8mm dural and travels with the rear wheel spindle as you adjust the chain.
Only need to sort the mounting plate anchor point on the swinging arm!

Using a Brembo master cylinder linked directly to the rear brake pedal.

Obviously, the original brake plate, torque arm, brake shoes, etc, an be thrown away - saving some weight !
Hoping it will work !

Jon a lot of engineering to put disc or rear when it´s only use is for the scrutineering as with a big enough front brake the rear wheel is in the air when you brake anyway.
