Thanks Tim!
Take a look in the articles section on here. See how I accidently got started with Bantam racing when I was only building the bicycle part of our threesome. Then how I accidently became Chairman of the BRC for a couple of years.
I think you´ll find that I stated differently, from recently, the size of engine used in my very first road race. At 45 mind, when I thought I´d given up on all daft things and become a `straight domesticated´ man.
The first Bantam we prepared was with a 150cc engine and not 175... I was consequently in a 250 race and finished a dispirited second from last. That was at Snetterton, my jinx circuit.
...Funny thing was I made a good start but the sudden rush of accelerating 250s either side dispelled any thought of instant stardom. At the end of lap one I was well and truly last. During the race -- NO, it was a ride! -- I kept asking myself WHY had I bothered with all this? Sitting there all alone like. Taking ages to get along the old Norwich Straight, then leaving the braking too late -- which weren´t a lot of good anyway which was proved by leaving tyre tracks in the bank -- and only enjoying one moment when I passed the poor chappy who finished last. I was actually hoping that that 150 engine would seize and I could retire with a degree of dignity.
Cheers!
JayBee.

My favourite circuit was Brands, I loved it there, the squigly bit, left right before clearways was a great place to gain places and momentum for the pits straight. I loved Lydden too, that last right hander was a winner for me, i got my first 250 proddy win there in 79, rode round the outside of the guy who thought he'd won it before the flag, lol. The end of the Revettes straight at Snetterton was a fave with me too, that left right kink was a massive winner with me and i nearly always gained places or wins there, late break, flick left and hard on through the right. Bloody dangerous at times but the F1 Kwacka loved it, back wheel in the air and everyone getting out of my way. Webby was right, i was an accident looking for a place to happen but i'm not in bad shape after all that....oooh, me back.

I think you have missed the point Mick.

"YO" Ned back in the day I was a fit ex judo champ - could do 2000 situp and press ups, all after a 10k run, then start a 4 hr judo session, "no problem "and yes you where waiting for it just as fit today ! No problem "of course!.

I believe I can still do this today, also feel a bit more intelegent, see Ive been watching this T.V program so, believe what I can think of! I can do!, and what I try - will succeed or teach me something, and there is only ever learning never failure, we only fail when we give up, or don't try ????

Now some where here I forgot the point I was making ? "o" yes -- "Ned" no need this year as my bike will be reliable enough not to have to do push it up that hill ?? please dont anyone be reminding me of this.

PostSubject: Snetterton -- Jinx Circuit,...   Least favourite circuit or corner?? - Page 2 Icon_minitimeFri Apr 01, 2011 4:05 am

Every time I went to Snetterton something dreadful happened.
...
Very first Bantam race, I was using a 150cc engine hence had to go out in the 250 event. Rough lot of blokes on the grid -- I got shoved twice, as if in the way.... Sitting, all alone at the back I kept wondering why I was there, then the throttle slide stuck and I hit the bank at the end of the Old Norwich Straight -- somehow stayed on by adopting `wall-of-death´ tactics. Then in amazing fashion the throttle freed itself and I caught up with the second-from-last to make a bit of excitement on the last lap....
Hardly ever finished a race there and ended up in Norwich hospital several times yet I have a cup which says I finished 3rd in an Intermediate race. I wrote to the Trophy Sec and told him he´d got it wrong but he reckoned the result was given to him by the Comp Sec so it had to be right. Must have been one of those times I´d fallen on my head in practice and don´t remember the racing.
...
Did some plug chops, on a Wednesday, at Brands, with a Gardner rep, to get the carburation sorted and 4 days later at Snetterton the 250 ABS was really flying in practice and was the fastest 250 on the old Norwich Straight. Then on the 4th lap the back wheel locked: the piston had seized and the piston crown had a 3/8ths" hole in the centre. Just a couple of degrees difference in ambient temperature and the mixture was too weak.
...
I´ve got a pointed right elbow -- which is a growth caused by falling several times at Druids hairpin at Brands. That does not make it my least-favourite-corner because I used to pass riders there -- more times than that of when I fell off.
...
Cheers!
JayBee.

PS. You Chubbies ought to be dieting. Being too heavy is not good on a Bantam
-- but the force of gravity doesn´t feel that much different from when when you fall off a bigger bike.
JB.

Ex-Judo champ there Derek? Would you like a 1-1 Martial arts demo between us then on the paddock floor? LOL.. I practice Iaijitsu plus Battojutsu, both of swordsmanship. No idea why I wondered onto this non-topical subject of Martial arts.. Hmm.
